What is behindthecurve.gg, what can you expect here and what’s coming next?
Welcome! The first post on a new site always feels a bit awkward. What’s the best way to start? What makes for a good opening topic? And how do you instantly capture readers’ attention?
Honestly: I’m not too interested in those questions right now. Instead, I just want to introduce the site and share a bit about the idea behind it and where things might go from here.
What is behindthecurve.gg?
behindthecurve.gg is a site for articles, news, and guides about World of Warcraft. The goal is to go beyond simple patch notes or translated blueposts. My focus is on context, opinions, and exploring topics from a fresh angle.
Just getting started
Most importantly: I want to just get going.
No over-planning, no perfect launch. I’ll be experimenting with formats, topics, layouts, and the overall design of the site. I want to find out what’s fun to write and what’s enjoyable to read. This site is not a finished product. Ideally, it’ll grow into something that’s rewarding for both you and me.
Articles with value instead of copy-paste news
I plan to publish articles and news about WoW on a regular basis. But I’m not aiming to simply repeat what’s already out there. Instead, I want to add something of my own: thoughts, context or just what’s on my mind. I’m also working on ideas for formats that deal with WoW beyond the day-to-day news cycle.
That said: writing is hard. Which is why I’m starting small and learning as I go.
SEO & ads
Yes, visibility matters. So I’ll use basic SEO practices, but not at the cost of readability.
If it’s a choice between one more keyword or a sentence that actually makes sense, I’ll pick the latter.
As for ads or other ways to cover things like hosting costs, they’ll likely show up eventually. But I’ll keep it within a limit I feel comfortable with.
How often will new content appear?
This is a private side project, so don’t expect daily updates.
My current goal is to post something every two or three days – though early on it might take a bit longer while I’m still figuring out formats and finding my rhythm.
What about guides?
Guides are both a blessing and a curse. I use them myself when I need quick info, but I also see how they encourage “just follow the meta” behavior and can discourage learning or experimentation.
That’s why I want to create guides that explain not just what to do, but why. What’s the core idea behind a spec, a build, a rotation, or a profession? What design philosophy is at work?
These kinds of guides take time and therefore they’ll roll out gradually.
Languages: German first, then English
All articles will be written in German first and then translated into English with the help of AI. I’ll mark the translated versions clearly.
I won’t be offering additional languages. I simply wouldn’t be able to guarantee the content quality.
Thanks for stopping by – and enjoy reading!
Note: This article was first published in German and has been translated into English with the help of AI. I’ve done my best to capture the original meaning and tone, but a few nuances may differ from the original text.
